Urbex Gear – LED Lenser P7 Torch Review

Author sophos9 - Last updated: 13.08.2009

When we are out urban exploring, we need the best and most reliable equipment to deal with the rugged abuse given with urbex. Today I took delivery of a LED Lenser P7 torch. I’ve read lots of good info about these, they are rated better than Surefire torches so I was expecting a lot!

I’m after a rugged torch that can deal with tough terrain and it really needs to be bright, like floodlight bright! The LED Lenser P7 on paper footed the bill, its output is 170 lumens, that’s pretty bright!

After opening the packaging I was greeted with a well put together black box. If you are anything like me, I get excited with new stuff in nice boxes!

After opening the box, I got the LED Lenser and fitted the batteries that came with it. First thoughts were “how cool is this…?” Feels really rugged, great composition, balance and fits perfectly in your hand. All the seals were good and fitted snug. When putting the batteries in, I noticed the gold contacts – first torch I have seen with 24 carat gold contacts

I delved into the box, instruction put to one side – then I found the pouch, really cool again rugged and durable, it has a belt and carabina clip. The torch fits snug inside it, there is no movement at all

What got me interested in the LED Lenser was its new CREE LED technology, these things are ultra bright!

I know this shows you nothing however this thing is really bright, I cant explain 170 lumens however it crazy bright. The focus can push down to narrow or back up to floodlight, all this is done easily in one hand – love it!

I’ve done some dark test shots with my comparison 2 x AA LED Maglite – the results speak for themselves, this thing will make the Maglite look like a toy, seriously.

The LED Lenser P7 is not cheap however you do get what you pay for, in this instance you get a seriously awesome torch that is brighter than anything I’ve ever seen in the entire torch range! It also comes with a lifetime guarantee which is great!

Hope this article helps
