Gunkanjima, Hashima Island, Battleship Island are the names for it. This was the place I flew 5k miles to explore the other places were just gravy on top. The island was a mining island that closed in 1974. There is a lot already written about that you can look up.
I had two mornings on the island from 0600-0730. I could have spent a week on the thing and not shot everything I wanted to shoot. The reason we had such a short time is because they patrol the island with boats and the guy who took us said they actually patrol the island on foot before the tourist arrive. I don’t really believe they patrol on foot since there is no way they could search everything. I think he tells you that so your there for your pick up time.
It takes only about 10-15mins to get over to the island from the place we left from. My friend and I got dropped off in the dark from a moving boat onto the island and scramble up one ladder and down another and BAM we are the only people on the island. Me being a dumb ass doesn’t have a flashlight with me so we are walking around in semi darkness since the suns rising over crumbling buildings and stuff all over the deck.
Once the sun rises you can take in all the beauty that is a whole abandoned island waiting for you to play in. Hope you guys enjoy the photos.

Thanks for looking

Nice writeup! Good to see others from abroad have made it here. I wrote my own account of the adventure exploring it here: http://gakuranman.com/gunkanjima-ruins-of-a-forbidden-island/
That’s interesting, I went just 2 weeks after you!
It seems it’s impossible to go from now, apparently a guy went on the island and did graffitis. The boat captain is mad at gaijins now…
