Some days, you just get lucky – yesterday was no exception. After scouting 3 places, I went abandonment hunting and found something strange. Village of the Damned is set in the middle of a wood, its the remains of an abandoned village – still left is some houses, a chapel, restaurant and theatre. There is also the remains of a large manor house which is partly demolished – very close to the site is a redevelopment of houses with builders and site security working 24/7
I had scouted a newly vacated mental clinic early in the morning, a tower block and a abandoned restaurant and leisure complex, got some good intel and will be back this weekend to shoot one of them.
Driving around hunting, I saw a building site so took a drive into it – thats when I saw the partly demolished manor house. The site was full of builders and a site security post so I took a drive, dumped my car in a field and went to enter the site from the reverse. After doing some climbing to just get into the wood, I made my way up a track – it struck me it looked very man made
It looked pretty eerie but when I came to end of it, I noticed buildings – it was only when I got closer that I realised it was a restaurant and something else
It was only when I got inside that I realised what else was there, an abandoned theatre – was amazed. It was pitch black in there, I had with me the same lighting packs we used in the Chemical Labs in Berlin when we shot that place in the dark, after lighting it up – I saw the once grand centre stage and went for the grand tour
Leaving the theatre, I headed down another track and found more buildings, a row of houses, one large bungalow and a chapel. The place is massively overgrown which was fun, I had not expected this and was wearing jeans and sneakers, feet and legs were soaked
Inside the houses, they looked OK – stripped completely but OK. Also noticed there is no vandalism what so ever
I had not been able to take a tripod, it was left in the car so all the shots were single shots, no HDR and no tonemap process
The church was great, had been ripped apart but great – looks like the result of a horror film
On the way out, I found additional buildings – this was some messed up stable with Xmas tree lights, candle and straw – I had also noticed mattresses in the theatre so think at some time, a transient has had a nice stay
And that was it, I did make a little video of some of the place – its done with an iPhone 4 in HD, dont expect too much hahaha
Hope you enjoyed you tour of the "Village of the Damned"

Thats a really nice find, what a surprise! Is there any hisotry on the place?
Amazing right? Could not believe it… So there is nothing in the place that gives away what it was for however I’m sure a small village would not have a restaurant and theatre?
I’m going to speak with some of the people that live as local as possible to see what they know. The only thing I can think is that it was a movie set or something similar?
Strange…
Wow! Whereabouts is this? I’d love to know
Has anyone discovered any history about this abandoned village yet?
Hi, yep – the history is now in hand but needs a picture to display it. Drop me an email – sophos9@talkurbex.com for more info
Are you going to put the history up here?
Any knowledge yet, what city this was and what happened to it?
Interesting, and very good photography. My compliments.
Again, wonderful photography – - good composure and great use of light! Thank you for sharing.
WTF??? This is the wierdest location… it looks like one of those places the military use for training except they seldom bother with props so the theatre would have been empty. It’#s not some old army base or something is it? Is it in the UK???
What a find!!! More piccies please!
Cheers man!
