Roof Top Exploration

110 meter crane (roof top)

My new Samyang 8mm lens loooves the heights and so do I, so we get along just fine. A few nights ago I went to check out the cranes at a Copenhagen hotel construction site. The tallest hotel building is 76 meters and the highest crane is 110 meters. Standing on the top of the highest crane, the hotels and a nearby wind mill just looks ridicously small.

1. This is the hotel, should be finished in the first quarter of next year. I started out 1.30 in the morning, aiming for the mother of the Crane family

2. But 40 minutes later I’m still not in, because of various activity around the place.

3. Climbed the fence but had to lay low for 20 minutes, before the coast was clear.

4. Almost all the way, sorry, handheld at 1600 ISO.

5. This is 100 meters up, you see a small ladder down by the roof of the craneguy’s controlroom on the right of the crane. The final climb is the most sketchy part, since you climb 10 meters up, only protected by some metal cage-thing (pic 7)

6. Looking down 100 meters, check out the wind mill bottom right, you see it picture 1 as well.

7. Final 10 meters, this is where we separate the sheep from the goats, as we say in danish

8. Finally up the small 1×1 metal platform, 110 meters in the air, looking down at the construction site

9. Now it’s time for a beer and time to check out the view. Center of Copenhagen to the left. So much space for more tall buildings in the area in the middle.

10. Area with light in the middle of horizon is the Cph Airport

11. This is the newest development area of Copenhagen, Ørestaden, but everything is moving slowly now due to the financial crisis.

12. The dark area is a huge nature reserve and a popular place to dump bodies. Oh look, there’s that windmill again.

13. That’s all folks! Thanks for scrolling all the way down here.
