A selection of photos from a urbex crew meet in Norfolk with Andre Govia, Dessy (Ivorbean) and bumblebee. We met up at 6:30am near St. Andrews, the first urban exploration location. St. Andrews is a late 1800′s annex to the Norfolk Lunatic Asylum – we have published info and the history on this in some detail.
We made our way in and whilst waiting for light to arrive, we set up our photographic kit – when we could see what we were doing, we started shooting – here are some photos
We got out of there, to see that a tropical storm had emerged, raining like crazy… We waited, then when things calmed down – walked around the outside then back to the cars and out to the next place
The Heckingham Institute was a crazy workhouse, we have written about the history of this one also so wont bore you with it. We parked some distance away and hiked in. Once in, we began to search for shots… These are some we got:
This place is cool but a bit empty, we shot what we could then started moving to the outside. A local resident came over and asked us “what the hell we were doing”. We discussed that we were documenting the history of the place – she told us to leave however we negotiated us shooting the outside of the building then back to the cars.
We then headed over to Little Plumstead Mental Home for more urban exploration – jumping straight out of the cars, some bloke probed what we were doing there. We told him we were talking photos before the new day care centre was built. We headed straight into the buildings. I’ve shot this place a million time so I was on security patrol (this place is heavily guarded with police and security). We made one main block, then went into hydrotherapy then started heading to the admin block.
We stopped to grab some photos of the old hall. Whist doing this, police pulled up in there car. They told us that the bloke we spoke to was head of site security. The police told us about trespassing and took our details, ran a check against us, ran our car details and referenced them with the details we had given. We talked with them, to be fair – the police officers were really cool with us and explained that there was a secure unit up the road thus the police presence.
One of the police officers started to say about the pictures on our cameras. The police officer told us that we will have to leave but we could keep the pictures we already got – (thanks kind sir). He then asked why people from across the UK (and another country) would meet here, we told them that we love urbex. He laughed and called us geeks ![]()
They also told us about a new law which will come in at some time, which means trespass is no longer a civil offence but a criminal one of which you will be arrested – fact or scare tactics? We are looking into it ![]()
What really made me piss myself was Dessy (ivorbean), as the police was telling to get off site – he had set up a 5 shot bracketed burst – his Nikon D700 going off like a machine gun, everyone looked – Dessy laughed and said “oh, I dont know what that was”
We hooked up and a local petrol station and said our goodbyes! Frickin awesome day for sure ![]()
Hope you enjoy ![]()
