Tenacious B takes you on an Urban Exploration journey through the Belgium Horror Labs

A few weeks ago Jeremy Gibbs aka Romanywg approached me if I was interested to go on a urbex trip. He was in Belgium for a couple of days and wanted to see the Vetschool aka Horrorlabs. I’m always up for a good day of urbexing so I took the day off.

My alarm woke me up at 05:00 on a cold Wednesday morning but that wasn’t going to stop me! I met Romanywg in front of the Horrorlabs.

After making a short walk to wait for the right moment to enter the building we let ourself’s drop in to the basement. We quickly grabbed our flash light’s because it’s real dark down there. We walked straight to the room with all the pickled animals in jars.

We were there for about 5 minutes when I heard more people entering the building “R” asked me if they were explorers but they were making way to much noise for explorers. I could here 4 people walking around, waving with there flash lights. They pulled out some tools and started working near the only exit…. We were stuck in an old dirty room with a shit load of dead animals looking at us.

Suddenly one of the workers started walking down our hallway, I was standing right next to the doorway and could see his flash light closing. He stopped 2 feet before the door, I could hear his breathing and if there wasn’t a wall in between us I could have tapped him on his shoulder. Fortunately he turned around and went back to his colleague’s. After about 15 minutes they suddenly left. So we quickly made our way to the attic. In they attic there were lots and lots of books and old newspapers in mint condition dating back to the late 1800″s and early 1900′s

When we finished the attic and went one floor down I could see a little white van enter the area and the workers got out and entered the building again At that point we didn’t care any more and just went on our business of taking as much pics as we can before getting discovered. After covering all floors

They still didn’t know we were there! We tried to find an exit on the ground floor but couldn’t find one. So we were stuck with to options, sit and wait or shout down the stairs that we were up here and hope they wouldn’t kick our ass or call the cops. We decided on the last option seeing it was 13:45 and we didn’t wanted to wait till 17:00! Fortunately I noticed they spoke Dutch, most people there only speak French.

So I walked to the stairs leading to the basement and shouted down “Hello, is there anybody?” ( Quite stupid because that was pretty obvious as they were using heavy tools and singing the whole time!) But I had no idea what else to shout. After I shouted, silence…. I shouted again, still nothing. Damn! I just started walking an shouting down the stairs, when I was in the basement I saw a flash light coming our way.

I immediately made clear that we were only there to take pictures and meaning no harm. When they finally caught there breath, ( we scared the beegeezus out of them) they were quite nice and started telling me what they were doing and what was going to happen to the building and that the police was patrolling the area.

All this time “R” was standing behind me and the only thing he could understand was police, so was tapping my shoulder the whole time and asking what? what? police?

And in the end the workers opened up the front door, moved the gate out of the way and even shook our hands! A perfect ending to an adrenaline filled day! We had a blast!
